Old Albuquerque Municipal Airport lobby: Taos
Horsetail Dancer fresco by
Pop Chalee[1,2,3,4] (Merina Lujan Hopkins, 1906-1993), 1945. She was
commissioned not by the WPA but by Howard Hughes and Jack Frye (president of
TWA) to create three works for the airport; she reportedly charmed them into
allowing her to paint 12 murals instead (some of her frescoes were painted
over in later renovations)[2].
