Top:  Letter from American Academy of Art, June 13, 1922: "Dear Mr. Floegel, It is with very great pleasure that I now inform you that a fellowship in painting has been awarded to you by the American Academy in Rome. The stipend is $1,000 a year with residence at the Academy. The term of the fellowship is three years [beginning] October 1, 1922, at which date you are to report at the Academy in Rome. The stipend of this Fellowship is provided by the Lazarus Foundation of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and you will be "Lazarus ??" of the Academy. Please acknowledge receipt of this letter and signify your acceptance of the appointment. Most of the..." (It looks like 1922 to me; Wikipedia puts the date at 1925, but the New York Times says 1922.)

Bottom:  Unidentified clipping: "With This Painting, 'Muse,' a Student of the National Academy of Design, New York, Won the Rome Scholarship Prize Awarded Annually by the Lazarus Foundation of the Metropolitan Museum of Art." Alfred Jr. adds, "This painting about 3'-6"h x 6'-0"L now hangs in the Gizand balcony of the Eastman School of Music, Rochester N.Y."
