Bryant Park - Photo #2 - Historic Photos

Bryant Park in 1931, before the reconstruction. The park is on the same level as the street and there are no fences, walls, hedges, or steps (click the Enlarge button above and see for yourself). New York Public Library bottom left. The cylindrical object separated from the Library by two rows of trees is the Josephine Shaw Lowell Fountain in its original position. The Dodge statue is near the center of the right edge of the park. Diagonally along the top can be seen the Sixth Avenue El (elevated subway line), soon to be replaced by the below-ground version.
