The Triborough Bridge, aerial view looking north, about 1936. Enlarge the photo and you can see some other New Deal projects too; for example Randall's Island Stadium on Wards Island (site of the 1936 Olympics track and field trials), Astoria Pool in Queens (site of the 1936 Olympics swimming and diving trials), Thomas Jefferson Pool in East Harlem, the FDR Drive in Manhattan. Astoria Park, the part below the bridge in the photo, with its new running track and field house. The bare spot a few blocks north of the Bronx Triborough terminus, Saint Mary's Park, would be completed a few years later.
