Walton High School (far left) in 1943, seen from its next-door neighbor Hunter College, which served as the US Navy WAVES Basic Training center 1943-45. The Navy was was also able to use Walton High School's auditorium for assemblies and the nearby Eighth Regiment Armory (now the Kingsbridge Armory) for drill parades and regimental reviews[1].
